AREAS AFFECTED: Cook, IL; DuPage, IL; Kane, IL; Will, IL

DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...A portion of northeast Illinois, including the following counties, Cook, DuPage, Kane and Will. * WHEN...Until 1030 AM CDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Area rivers, streams, and creeks are rising or are above bankfull. Areas of poor drainage are likely flooded, including fields, parks, ditches, and low-lying intersections. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 233 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicate that between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen in the past 12 hours. The heaviest rain fell near the Interstate 80 corridor from Joliet to Lansing. Up to one additional inch may fall in showers and thunderstorms in the coming hours. This will only delay the speed at which flood waters recede. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Chicago, Aurora, Joliet, Naperville, Cicero, Hammond, Bolingbrook, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Oak Lawn, Berwyn, Wheaton, Oak Park, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Lombard, Carol Stream, Romeoville, Plainfield and Calumet City. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

A contrail is an artificial cloud, created by the passing of an aircraft.

Contrails form because water vapor in the exhaust of aircraft engines is suspended in the air under certain temperatures and humidity conditions. These contrails are called exhaust contrails.

Another type of contrail can form due to a temporary reduction in air pressure moving over the plane's surface, causing condensation. These are called aerodynamic contrails.

When you can see your breath on a cold day, it is also because of condensation. The reason contrails last longer than the condensation from your breath is because the water in contrails freezes into ice particles.

Cumulus clouds are fluffy and textured with rounded tops, and may have flat bottoms. The border of a cumulus cloud is clearly defined, and can have the appearance of cotton or cauliflower.

Cumulus clouds form at low altitudes (rarely above 2 km) but can grow very tall, becoming cumulus congestus and possibly the even taller cumulonimbus clouds. When cumulus clouds become taller, they have a greater chance of producing precipitation.
