AREAS AFFECTED: Southern Sangre De Cristo Mountains Between 7500 and 11000 Ft; Southern Sangre De Cristo Mountains Above 11000 Ft; Walsenburg Vicinity/Upper Huerfano River Basin Below 7500 Ft; Trinidad Vicinity/Western Las Animas County Below 7500 Ft
DESCRIPTION: At 127 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Spanish Peaks, or 24 miles northwest of Trinidad, moving northeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Aguilar, Spanish Peaks, and Gulnare.
INSTRUCTION: If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. To report severe weather, contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will relay your report to the National Weather Service office in Pueblo.

Cumulus clouds are fluffy and textured with rounded tops, and
may have flat bottoms. The border of a cumulus cloud
is clearly defined, and can have the appearance of cotton or cauliflower.
Cumulus clouds form at low altitudes (rarely above 2 km) but can grow very tall,
becoming cumulus congestus and possibly the even taller cumulonimbus clouds.
When cumulus clouds become taller, they have a greater chance of producing precipitation.
